Lodge Overview

A unique, small and intimate eco-lodge reclaimed from a bygone era for true safari lovers who want to get off the beaten track and discover the pristine wilderness and abundant wildlife of Northern Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe. Perched up on a bluff overlooking a large dam with resident crocodile and hippo, the lodge boasts one of the best views in the park. Built from the foundations of an old Zimparks outpost, and using as many eco principles as possible, the refurbished lodge embodies the very essence of conservation and responsible tourism by re-purposing, preserving and celebrating the natural heritage of the site.

Become a Hwange expert through guided bush walks and game drives. When not busy exploring the surrounding bush or spying wildlife right from your chalet, the Main Lodge is where you will find the open lounge and dining area, as well as a well-equipped library. Here, you won’t just be a visitor but a budding conservationist or African wildlife enthusiast. Your first fun fact? This part of the park has the highest density of lions in the park and those in the know refer to it as Big Cat country.

Location

Nantwich, Hwange is located in the northwest corner of Hwange National Park. It is the closest lodge to Victoria Falls in Hwange National Park – a short 30 minute flight or easy 1.5 hour transfer from Vic Falls.

Hwange National Park is the largest National Park in Zimbabwe and is 275kms south east of Victoria Falls town.

Accommodation

Each suite has been lovingly recreated in an eco-friendly way, adding a refreshing modern touch and a new purpose. We have repurposed existing elements into stylish and useful accents around the lodge, a prime example of true African innovation. All nine suites sleep two guests with four of them having interleading doors and a lounge, allowing for families or friends to share, yet still have privacy. A uniquely appointed honeymoon suite is perfect for a romantic safari holiday. Guests are escorted between the areas on a golf cart so their comfort and safety are well taken care of.

Child Policy

Children younger than 7 will be on a request basis. We have inter-leading suites to cater for families with younger children.

* Children aged 7 – 15 years pay 50% of the adult rate and children aged 16 years and above pay 100% of the adult rate

The Main Camp

The main communal area consists of inside and outside lounge and dining areas, communal Boma area, bar and curio shop. An open display kitchen allows guests to see and interact with chefs as their meals are being prepared. There is also a natural Eco-swimming pool with grand views ove the plains. Complimentary WIFI is available in the main area.

Guest Amenities

All guest amenities including shampoo, conditioner, hand and body lotion, foam bath, liquid gel and soaps are sourced from eco-friendly suppliers, who are endorsed by Beauty without Cruelty, and use organic ingredients which are biodegradable, where possible.

Activities

Game drives:

Search for wildlife in an open-air safari vehicle in Hwange National Park. Professional guides embark with our guests in search of wildlife during day and night-game drives. We invite you not to just be a passive observer – get involved, ask questions and plan your day ahead with your guide.

Guided Walks:

The flat plains that Nantwich is known for makes an excellent environment for guided bush walks. The terrain is comfortable to traverse and wildlife is easily viewable. Our expert guides ensure that guests are safe on these walks, while sharing their unique insights about this remote area. Unique to the area are the natural springs just close-by.

2. How long are the Full Day and Half Day Game drives?

Full Day Game Drive : 6:30 -16:30

Half Day Game Drive : 3-4 hours

3. Is lunch provided on the game drives? Drinks/snacks?

Drinks and snacks are provided on game drives. Lunch is served on full days - at around 1pm at a picnic spot. Alternatively we can return to the lodge for lunch.

4. Are children allowed on Game Activities? What is the age limit?

Yes, from 7yrs up for Game Drives & 16yrs up on Game Walks.

5. Is there a fence around the lodge? No

6. Can I go for a walk around the lodge without a guide?

Guests can freely move around the lodge during the day. At night time guests are escorted on the property by a guide.

7. What kind of animals can I expect to see?

Elephants, Leopard, Lion, Warthog, variety of

birds, Buffalo, Painted Dog, Cheetah, Aardvark, Jackal, Giraffe, Hares, Hyaena, Mongoose, Civet, Genets, Honey Badger, Monkey, Bat-eared fox, Zebra, Hippopotamus etc

Getting there

The position of Nantwich Lodge as a Hwange National Park camp makes it the perfect mid-way stop between the southern and eastern regions of this wilderness area as well as connecting to Chobe National Park in Botswana. Situated in the northwest corner of Hwange, it is also the closest lodge to Victoria Falls. A short 30-minute flight or easy 1 ½ hour road transfer from Vic Falls will bring you to our Hwange safari camp.

When to travel

The position of our game lodge in Hwange, Zimbabwe ensures you have a virtual all-year safari destination in Southern Africa. Aim for the cooler, dry season between July and October for an optimum safari experience as waterholes attract a great variety of animals and the bush thins out well to ensure great wildlife viewing. Daytime temperatures are in the mid 20’s but drop considerably at night to below 10 degrees Celsius. For those with a special interest in birds, the best time to book a stay at Nantwich Lodge is between November and April when the wet summer months attract a host of migratory species. Just be aware that temperatures can exceed 30 degrees Celsius, so protection against the sun is a must.
