Tau Pan Camp is situated inside the world famous Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) right on the edge of the beautiful Tau Pan.
Guests are accommodated in 9 rooms under thatch, designed and built to remain cool in the summer months and warm in winter. Each room is ensuite with a separate flushing toilet, double sinks and an inside and outside shower. The rooms are airy and spacious with large double or twin beds, a lounge area and a viewing
deck that has amazing views of the wide open spaces and beautiful big skies that this area possesses – truly special and captivating.
One of the rooms, situated close to the main area is a family room. This unit has an extra room with twin beds, in all other respects the family room is identical to the other rooms.
The main area is open plan, under thatch. The building and décor have been planned and finished to blend into the local landscape. There is the dining area and a lounge/bar area as well as a curio shop. The main deck houses a plunge pool and has commanding views of Tau Pan and beyond, and the nearby permanent
waterhole where animals come to quench their thirst.
At the far end of the camp, on its eastern end, an elevated sleep-out deck consists of a double bed, and a basin and WC. This experience is available on a ‘first come first serve’ basis upon arrival in camp, however guests staying 3 nights or more in Tau Pan can reserve this pre-arrival with their agent. In an area where the light pollution is minimal to none, having an unobstructed view of the night sky to fall asleep under is a truly amazing experience.

We operate our game drives using a guide and tracker, this adds to the experience on two levels. You have two sets of eyes searching out the action, looking for tracks – this ensures a good chance of sightings, especially predators. In addition, having the tracker concentrating on tracking means that the guide is more able to talk to clients, keep them informed and answer all their questions, it leads to a more relaxed, convivial game drive atmosphere.
As Tau Pan is within a national park we have to follow the park regulations. The area is ecologically sensitive and as such we are not permitted to drive at night nor off road. Day trips are offered to different areas of interest with the Central Kalahari Game Reserve such as Deception Valley and Pipers' Pan.
In addition to game drives we do offer informative nature walks with our trackers who are all Bushmen from the Central Kalahari – a worthwhile experience. These nature walks offer a glimpse into the lives of the San Bushmen who used to live in a semi-nomadic manner, and is an interactive experience where the San share stories on how they used to hunt and gather, as well as their keen sense of being able to differentiate various plants and their uses

The Kalahari’s vegetation consists mainly of grasses and acacias, as well as stunted thorn and scrub bush. There are over 400 identified plant species present.
The annual rainy season is between December and March when summer temperatures can get quite high. The largely unchanging flat terrain is occasionally interrupted with gentle valleys, sand dunes and a large number of pans. These pans are invaluable to the wildlife as they supply them with nutrients from the salts and the grasses of the pans.
The desert camps make a perfect contrast to the Okavango Delta and Northern Botswana regions, a great way to start or round off any trip.
