Best time to Visit Amakhala Game Reserve
In Amakhala, the wildlife viewing is good all year. Since the climate is semi-arid, animals are always attracted to water sources – but marginally more so during the driest months of June through September. Nights become very cold at this time, making it essential to bring warm clothing for game drives in open vehicles.
How to get to AMAKHALA GAME RESERVE
Most visitors to Amakhala Game Reserve arrive via O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg or Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town.
You may start your tour from either of these destinations by organized safari or by driving yourself.
You may also prefer a self-drive adventure from Cape Town, along the renowned Garden Route. This is the most interesting way to travel and travel time can range from three to five leisurely days while exploring the route’s hidden secrets like oyster tasting on a cruise at the Knysna Lagoon, or exploring the Tsitsikamma National Park on an exhilarating hike across the Suspension Bridge. During the Spring season, you can do whale watching by boat or from the shore at Plettenberg Bay.
Driving from Port Elizabeth Airport or surrounds
From Port Elizabeth take the N2 towards Grahamstown. Approximately 50 km from Port Elizabeth is an intersection, keep left on the N2 towards Grahamstown. From the intersection travel for a further 13km towards Amakhala Game Reserve (see road signs of various lodges along the way, there is no central entrance).
