Hlosi Game Lodge is a tranquil grassland retreat offering rich game-viewing and luxurious accommodation for the whole family. Lying along a gentle curve of a hill above the river plain, our suites offer wide-open views with four-star comforts. The main lodge includes elegant lounge and dining areas, and a splendid bar overlooking the swimming pool and waterhole.

Our fenced camp is perfect for families with small children, or for those who aren't comfortable with a chance-meeting with wild animals. Watch breathlessly from the privacy of your own viewing deck or luxurious deep-soaking tub at the array of wildlife and bird life from a safe and comfortable distance.

With only six suites and eight luxury tents it is our privilege is to create intimate, personal game-viewing experiences for our guests and to share our love for conservation, food and life. Our four double suites and two 2-roomed family suites may also be booked exclusively as an intimate venue for small team-building events, conferences and weddings.

Amakhala Hlosi Game Lodge is situated in the 7500 ha malaria-free Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, which boasts of the Big Five and other forms of wildlife.

Room Types

Luxury Suite - King Bed

This suite is open plan, with a lounge and either a king-size bed or two twins. Leading off from the suite is a bathroom with an indoor and outdoor shower, a bath and a separate WC. Your private deck is there for your game viewing pleasure, or a refreshing sundowner before dinner is served.

Our four King Suites offer a private haven away from the main lodge along a wooden walkway. The open-plan suites each have their own lounge and secluded balcony from which to watch the game pass by. Your en-suite bathroom is a retreat from the days’ activities, with a deep-soaking tub, indoor and outdoor showers, and underfloor heating for those chilly winter mornings.

Each suite is provided with a selection of teas & coffees, a mini-bar stocked with selected beverages and heating and air-conditioning facilities. On those warm summer evenings, relax on your private deck and watch the stars with a night-cap – an added luxury that is complemented by the sounds of the bush as your background music.

Family Suite

The Family Suite has two bedrooms both en-suite, with a family lounge separating them with doors opening up onto a beautiful deck. The main suite has a king-size bed with both an indoor and outdoor shower as well as a deep-soaking tub. The second bedroom has twin beds with a bath and indoor shower.

Situated along a wooden walkway, our two family suites provide luxury family accommodation at Hlosi Game Lodge. The two-bedroom suites each have their own private decks, overlooking the vast plains below the lodge, and the perfect spot for families to gather and spend some quality time. Each bedroom is en-suite, with a shower and a deep-soaking tub. The main en-suite is fitted with an outdoor shower as an extra option.

Mosquito nets are provided in all suites. The suite’s family lounge is the perfect place to relax after a family game drive, with teas & coffee facilities and a minibar stocked with an array of selected beverages. The two-bedroom Family Suites are a superb accommodation option for families or for friends travelling together.

Luxury Family Tent

The Luxury Family Safari Tent has two bedrooms. The main bedroom has a king-size bed while the second has twin beds. A full en-suite bathroom joins the rooms. The tent is built on a raised wooden platform with three viewing decks offering a 180-degree viewing experience.

Hlosi’s Luxury Family Tents offer families a memorable tented safari experience without compromising on luxury or comfort. Our 2-bedroom tents have all the modern conveniences, including the full en-suite bathroom (shared between rooms), air conditioners, electric blankets and minibar. At the same time, our guests can experience the wonder of being in a tent in the African bush, and feel the immediacy of the surrounding landscape. The main bedroom has a lounge area with a minibar and tea-coffee facilities and opens on two sides onto the viewing deck.

The tents are set on a raised wooden platform, and have 180-degree wraparound viewing decks, providing panoramic views across the gently sloping grassland valley. From the comfort of these viewing decks, guests can spot the elephant, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, buck, warthog, zebra and other wildlife that roam the valley. The main deck faces the sunset and is perfect for a private sundowner experience. Hlosi tents are our greenest product to date, with extremely energy-efficient water and room heating facilities and a combination of LED and solar lighting.

Luxury Safari Tent

Our large luxury safari tents are one-bedroom and have all the modern conveniences, including full en-suite bathrooms, air conditioners, electric blankets and a minibar. It also offers an open-plan lounge and viewing decks over-looking the African bush.

Hlosi’s Luxury Safari Tents offer a memorable tented safari experience without compromising on luxury or comfort. Our large tents have all the modern conveniences, including a full en-suite bathroom, air conditioner, electric blankets and minibar. At the same time, our guests can experience the wonder of being in a tent in the African bush, and feel the immediacy of the surrounding landscape.

The luxury safari tent has an expansive open plan lounge and bedroom area with minibar and tea-coffee facilities and opens on two sides onto the viewing deck. The tents are set on a raised wooden platform, and have wraparound viewing decks, providing panoramic views across the gently sloping grassland valley. From the comfort of these viewing decks, guests can spot the elephant, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, buck, warthog, zebra and other wildlife that roam the valley. The main deck faces north-west so is perfect for a private sundowner experience.

The Hlosi tents are our greenest product to date, with extremely energy-efficient water and room heating facilities and a combination of LED and solar lighting.

Best time to Visit Amakhala Game Reserve

In Amakhala, the wildlife viewing is good all year. Since the climate is semi-arid, animals are always attracted to water sources – but marginally more so during the driest months of June through September. Nights become very cold at this time, making it essential to bring warm clothing for game drives in open vehicles.
