The classic tent is positioned to offer mottled shade from the camp’s surrounding forest (perfect for biding enthusiasts) and provides limited views of the Sabaringo River. They are set away from the main guest areas and afford additional privacy.

Superior Tent(s)

Recently rebuilt, the superior tents are separated into eight superior view tents and 20 superior tents. The larger and more spacious superior tents feature beautiful Maasai-inspired interiors that showcase a simple and contemporary use of local materials. Oversized beds are perfectly positioned to make the most of the views, while stained cypress wood furniture combine with tribal decorative elements. Indulge in beautifully roomy ensuite bathrooms and private verandas with comfortable day beds.The 20 superior tents offer either slightly interrupted views of the Masai Mara, glimpses of the Masai Mara through the shade of the forest (excellent for bird lovers) or picturesque scenes of a nearby escarpment.

Air Kenya and Safari Link operate two scheduled flights a day from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Kichwa Tembo’s private airstrip; the flights take approximately an hour.

Mombasa Air operates daily flights from Mombasa; the flights take approximately two hours.

The flight is followed by a 30-minute drive to the camp, with game viewing en route.

ICONIC WILDLIFE

The Masai Mara combines some of the richest Big Five viewing on the planet and is home to lion prides, leopard and elephant parades. In migration season, vast herds of wildebeest stretch as far as the eye can see, and with the diverse eco-systems comes a variety of bird life.

CULTURALLY RICH

This is the land of the Maasai, regal overlords and striking custodians of an ancient culture. Translated into spotted land of the Maasai, interact daily with our staff, many of whom are from local communities. Or visit a traditional village and witness the daily rituals of the Maasai.

PRIVATE CONCESSION

Situated on the western border of the game rich Masai Mara National Reserve, the camp is set on a private concession. In addition to the excellent year-round concentration of wildlife, access to the concession allows for bush walks, night drives and bush dining under a starry sky.

HEARTY DINING

Wholesome, organic menus incorporate and celebrate the seasonal bounty of the lodge’s thriving shamba (vegetable garden). The interactive kitchen brings a cheerful atmosphere to the lodge, allowing guests to see their mouth-watering meals being prepared from garden to table.

DIVE INTO A FASCINATING WORLD BENEATH THE WAVES IN ZANZIBAR

The essence of a scuba dive

Zanzibar boasts some of the most pristine and unspoilt coral reefs in the Indian Ocean. These vibrant coral colonies lie under clear waters with up to 26ºC (79 ºF) temperatures, and perfect underwater sights of up to 40 metres (131 feet).

These views are particularly vivid off the Coast of Unguja Island, the main island of Zanzibar, and Pemba Island, known fondly as the Green Island. Boasting calm waters and a wide variety of colourful marine species, they make up one of the top dive sites in the world.

Diving in Zanzibar features shallow coral gardens and walls that start at 30 metres deep, with close to two metre spiral corals and high barrel sponges. Encounter neon-tinted fish, such as the blue potato grouper, the indigo Napoleon fish, the deep red cubera snapper, and the green blocked turtle.

Dive alongside a wide range of marine wildlife, bright blue water drop off’s, and shining, strong and shallow reefs. Tough and supple coral patches sustain a rise of reef, tropical fish, and many other sea residents.

Diving in Zanzibar will prove to be an awe-inspiring experience, with some of the healthiest reefs in the Indian Ocean, making this a must and an unforgettable diving destination.

Horseback riding is a picture-perfect activity on which to take in the exceptional and unparalleled beauty of Benguerra Island. See the island through the eyes of a mighty steed, revelling in this exceptional perspective of this piece of paradise, at a pace that is comfortable and relaxing for every guest, depending on your varying ranges of skill. Join a troupe of nine keen horses and a dedicated guide, based at Benguerra Island, as you traverse the lush island, riding over whimsical trails and marked pathways.

Guides are well acquainted with the horses’ temperaments and are filled with knowledge about the island and its lustrous flora and fauna. They are more than willing to accommodate the whims of each rider and willingly allow advanced riders the freedom of galloping across the silken, alabaster sands, while those with less experience can delight in a more languid stroll. As routes are not fixed, guides can tailor make rides to accommodate your preferences, endeavouring to highlight the treasures of the area, some obvious and others better well kept, seamlessly incorporating miles of open beach, a dash of the lush inland bush and a tempting glimpse into the everyday happenings of local life on a paradise island. Rides often travel toward the northern end of the island, taking in the rolling waves of the deep Indian Ocean and the vast vistas of neighbouring Bazaruto Island.

Breezes and calm seas ensure conditions for sailing are almost always perfect. Acknowledged as one of the best ways to end a leisurely day on an Indian Ocean island, a relaxed sunset cruise aboard a traditional dhow provides the ideal opportunity to toast the sun as its slips beneath the waves.

Wade out to your traditional dhow awaiting you in front of your villa. This dhow, with its traditional sail is similar to those being used for local fishermen to catch their bounty each day. With the sun setting over the Quirimbas Archipelago, your favourite cocktail in hand, perfect photo opportunities present themselves.

Snorkelling at Two-Mile Reef will suit every guest, regardless of age and expertise. The boat ride out to the reef can be bumpy as the outgoing and incoming tides converge in the channel between Bazaruto and Benguerra Island. Two-Mile Reef is a flat-topped barrier reef renowned for its brilliant snorkelling. Highlights include a variety of hard and soft corals and many schools of reef and pelagic fish passing through. On the boat trip you may be lucky enough to spot playful dolphins and the elusive, endangered dugong.  Under the water you may encounter harmless reef sharks and slumberous turtles that effortlessly glide past with their wise eyes.
