Suggested itinerary
Detailed Itinerary combine Bisate and Segera Camps
Day 1
You are met at Kigali International Airport and brought to a meet-and-greet rendezvous to discuss the Rwandan leg of your itinerary. After a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, you are transferred to Bisate Lodge, either by helicopter or luxury 4x4 road transfer. The area around Bisate welcomes you with dramatic views of the peaks of the volcanoes Bisoke, Karisimbi and Mikeno rearing up through the Afro-alpine forests of nearby Volcanoes National Park. Six sumptuous en-suite rooms maximise comfort, warmth and views while retaining environmental principles and reflecting the culture of surrounding rural Rwanda.
Day 2 & 3
Exploring Bisate and its surrounds includes a golden monkey or gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park, outstanding birding, a community visit, planting your own tree to help reforest the area, as well as visits to the Iby’wacu cultural village, the Twin Lakes of Ruhondo and Burera and Dian Fossey’s grave.
Day 4
Return to Kigali International Airport via helicopter or road transfer for onward travel to Nairobi. From here you either depart by scheduled flight to Nanyuki or direct charter to Segera. The road transfer between Nanyuki and Segera takes two hours in a closed vehicle. Segera Retreat lies on the grasslands of the Laikipia Plateau, its six timber and thatch villas raised above a profusion of botanical life looking out towards Mount Kenya. Each large, en-suite bedroom has a private sun deck with sun loungers and a swing bed and a Jacuzzi bath, sunk into the deck outside the bedroom. The gracious Segera House and Villa Segera boast even greater privacy and luxury.
Day 5 & 6
In a safari experience reminiscent of ‘Out of Africa’, visitors to Segera enjoy a wide range of personalised activities in a wildlife-rich landscape diverse with savannah grasslands, waterfalls, rivers and woodlands. Further afield, you are invited to engage with local communities, bustling markets and various Segera-supported community projects.
