The hotel, a colonial style villa with two wings, is family owned and run (Waine is an acronym comprising the initials of family members’ names). It was built as recently as 1978, then renovated and opened as a hotel in 2004, but it retains the atmosphere of a private home - one, indeed, from the Out of Africa era of the 1920s. The large outdoor pool is heated, the lounge is scattered with coffee tables and sofas and the immaculate gardens are made for strolling in the long evening shadows. The hotel’s mainly British and American clientele are probably en route to or from the sort of upmarket safari camps that are only accessible by light aircraft from Wilson; indeed many guests stay both before and after their safaris and leave the bulk of their luggage at the hotel while they’re in the bush.

The House of Waine is located at Karen in Nairobi. It is a 40 minute drive from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and only 25 minutes from the Wilson Airport.
A smallish 11 bed-roomed hotel, the House of Waine is known for its attention to detail, and for the design of its rooms, all of which are slightly different. Shared areas include a lounge, a dining room, terraces, a heated pool (complete with pavilion and outdoor bar) and a main bar.
9 of the hotels's rooms can be single, double or twin rooms. Each bedroom features a large marble bathroom with plenty of natural light through the large windows.
Most bathrooms have a separate shower and bath (with the exception of 2 which feature only a bath) and all have a complete range of toiletries, hairdryers and bathroom telephone.
