Bumbusi Wilderness Camp
A reclaimed safari camp tucked beneath a lush grove of giant Mahogany trees in Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park
Bumbusi Wilderness Camp is nestled in an oasis of mature trees and shade which, bolstered by the waterhole and natural pool, makes for a wildlife magnet, especially in the dry season. The stone and thatch chalets all look out onto the lawns and water and compliment the incredible geology of this reclaimed wilderness.
Expect hot soaking showers, a cool pool to soak in after a beautiful walking safari, cosy beds and great coffee and meals around the fire! A true safari experience.
Safari Activities at Bumbusi
We recommend a 4 night stay as the optimal time to experience all that Bumbusi has to offer
Bumbusi offers a completely different Hwange safari experience which, when combined with a safari camp in some of the busier areas in Hwange, gives you the best of both worlds!
We have a variety of game drive routes that we explore but a huge attraction for Bumbusi are the endless and varied walking safaris available. The gorges, rivers and hills all make for outstanding walking safaris and we occasionally cut tracks of various members of the Big 5 that we follow. As we head deeper into the dry season, the game, especially elephant, congregates around and in camp so very often you can enjoy amazing game viewing from your chalet or the pool! Finally, the Bumbusi National Monument is located a short drive or interesting walk away – the rock engravings and ‘Great Zimbabwe style’ ruins architecture is fascinating to look at and learn about and adds a lovely richness to the Bumbusi safari experience.

An intimate safari camp positioned along the beautiful tree-laden banks of the mighty Zambezi river, Zimbabwe.
Mpala Jena Camp is located on a private concession within the Zambezi National Park. The camp is named after the natural spring-line, Mpala Jena, which runs through the centre of the concession, and which attracts an abundance of wildlife throughout the year, particularly during the drier months.
Mpala Jena overlooks a beautiful stretch of the Zambezi River shoreline. There are three guest tents and two family tents, all positioned under the dappled shade of a mixture of indigenous trees.
Activities
Mpala Jena Camp offers professionally guided wildlife viewing in open game drive vehicles, walks and morning or afternoon boat cruises (water level dependent / seasonally). The camp has custom-built Land cruisers, and the vehicles are fully stocked with reference books, drinks and snacks. In addition, guests should take the opportunity to enjoy an excursion into Victoria Falls town, including a visit to the thunderous and impressive mass of falling water of the actual Victoria Falls during their stay. A guided tour of the Falls can be arranged for guests.
Additional cost activities are available for those who wish to participate in the varied adrenalin and more relaxing activities that this tourist hub has become renowned for. A range of activities exists, including navigating one of the world’s most intense white-water rafting, partaking in the numerous high-wire activities located at the Gorge / Lookout Cafe, conducting a cultural village tour, a historical guided high tea tour, or simply enjoying wandering the streets of this bustling tourist town.

Three reasons you should choose this safari package
A ‘Barefoot’ Luxury Experience
Mpala Jena offers a luxurious safari experience on the banks of the Zambezi. Rver based activies are on offer depending on the water levels.
An Evergreen Oasis
Unlike most of the drier and sandveld based camps, Bumbusi is always an oasis thanks to the evergreen trees and perennial springs.
Easy access to Victoria Falls
Located in a private concession in Zambezi National Park Easy access to the iconic Victoria Falls
Hwange National Park is situated in western Zimbabwe and is the country’s premier game reserve. With easy road and flight access from both Victoria Falls and Bulawayo, the reserve is extremely popular with both local and international tourists. Hwange is renowned for its huge elephant and buffalo herds, sable and other rare antelope as well as an excellent concentration of large predators including lion, leopard, wild dog, hyena, and cheetah. Birders will find plenty to keep them busy with over 400 species of birds recorded and the park is especially known for its spectacular sunsets.
At almost three million acres, Hwange is a huge wilderness area open to Botswana on its western side, allowing wildlife to traverse across countries and making it extremely valuable for the conservation of large mammals like elephant, lion, and buffalo.
Zambezi National Park lies on the southern banks of the Zambezi River, west of the tourist center of Victoria Falls. At over 100,00 acres, the reserve is part of a huge conservation area that extends westward across Botswana and beyond to Zambia, Namibia, and Angola. The area is dominated by beautiful teak and mopane woodlands and wildlife abounds. Elephants, buffalo, hippos, and crocodiles are common, and lion, leopard, and wild dog can also be found. The birding is exceptional with species like the shy African finfoot being fairly common along the quiet river banks.
There are plenty of ways to experience this wildlife haven, from walks to game drives to enjoying a sundowner cruise down the Zambezi River.
