Moving further inland, spend the next two nights in Northern Drakensberg – an area known for its magnificent scenery of towering mountains, indigenous forests and cool berg streams. At over 3400 metres in height, the Drakensberg is South Africa’s highest mountain range and stretches roughly 1000 kilometres south-west to north-east. On the banks of the Chintsa River and Estuary just 45km north of East London, you will find the quaint seaside villages of Chintsa (Cintsa) East and Chintsa (Cintsa) West. Split in half by the river, Chintsa East (which is actually located to the North) and Chintsa West (actually located to the South) offer locals the laid back coastal village lifestyle so appealing to many, and visitors the perfect beach getaway just minutes away from the city. It is also the gateway to the world renowned rugged and scenic Wild Coast.
The villagers tend to take their weekends on Mondays and Tuesdays, so apart from a few places, most of the restaurants, shops and attractions are closed. From Wednesday everything starts waking up and by the weekend the villages are bustling with visitors exiting the city for some fun in the sun.
So what is there to do in Chintsa you may ask? Well, quite a bit in fact. It is however important that you double check their opening times, so you can plan in advance to avoid disappointment. This can be done by visiting their Facebook Pages or calling them directly.

Orphaned after his mother was killed by poachers, Abby (Abnormally Big Baby) was hand reared and is THE must see attraction on the Wild Coast Jikeleza Route. This giraffe lives with wild giraffes in a private reserve, but seeks out human companionship wherever possible. About Crawford's Beach Lodge

Crawford’s is nestled in the middle of the beautiful Chintsa Bay on the Wild Coast, surrounded by rolling hills, lush tropical beach forests and overlooks the warm Indian Ocean. The location is malaria free. We are approximately 42km from East London, far enough from the maddening crowd, but close enough for emergencies.
ACCOMMODATION
Crawford’s Beach Lodge offers luxury suites which consist of double and twin bedrooms all en-suite and each with its own private balcony, overlooking the sea. The suites are fully equipped with bar fridge, DStv, coffee and tea making facilities, with air conditioning or fans and fully equipped kitchenettes.

Game Drive Activities
Morning Game Drive
Departure: 06h30
Return: 12h30
Departure from the front verandah of the hotel. Tea and coffee served prior to departure. Being adjacent to the Addo Park, the drive and narration starts from the hotel. We enter the main gate of the Park and the rest of the morning will be spent in the Park. The first few hours are good to see Antelope, Zebra and some of the cats. Between 09h00 and 09h30 a continental breakfast will be served in a picnic area. Usually there a good sightings of elephants and buffalo after 10h00 nearer the waterholes. We return to Addo main camp around 12h00. The park is over 27,000 hectares with thick bush and there are interesting sightings. Refreshments are available throughout the drive.
Afternoon Game Drive
Departure: 13h30
Return: 18h30
Departure from the front verandah of the hotel. The narration will commence from the hotel and we will enjoy a scenic drive down the pass. Game may be sighted on-route to the park. The early afternoon is good for elephant and buffalo sightings, near the water holes, as well as some antelope and zebra. We will stop mid-afternoon at a disembarkment point or picnic area for teas, coffee, refreshments scones and snacks. The latter part of the afternoon is usually good for antelope and the illusive rhino. The park is over 27,000 hectares with thick bush and offers an abundance of birds, tortoise, dung beetles and other creatures. Our well skilled guides will do their best to provide you with an unforgettable game experience.
Full Day Game Drive
Departure: 08h00
Return: 18h00
After an early breakfast 07h30 we will depart on the game drive at 08h00 from the hotel. Our drive will start from the hotel down the scenic Zuurberg Pass. Our well experienced and enthusiastic guides will do their best to locate as much of the game available in the area during the drive. The park is 27,000 hectares and characterized by dense bush. Fortunately, you are elevated in the Land rover and have a good opportunity to have good and close sightings. You will stop between 10h00 and 11h00 for tea and scones. At 13h00 to 14h00 we will stop at a picnic site for about an hour to enjoy a traditional braai lunch. Depending on our sightings we will return to the main camp between 17h00 and 17h30 and then return to the hotel. As this game drive covers all time periods of the day you will have the opportunity to see most game species.

THE 145 000 HECTARE GREATER ADDO NATIONAL PARK surrounds the hotel where a range of spectacular horse-riding and hiking trails can be experienced from beginners to the more advanced.
Mountain zebra, eland, kudu, bushbuck, duiker, red hartebeest and other endemic game of the area can be encountered as well as prolific birdlife – the Forest Weaver and Knysna Loerie to name a few. Rhino can be viewed at Darlington Dam after a rugged 4×4 trail. From indigenous riverine forests to mountain fynbos the Greater Addo Park, including the Zuurberg Mountains, protects some of the last remaining vegetation of the region.

Elephant Encounters in the Area
1 – 2 hours encounter and interaction with elephants in their natural environment. Take incredible photos with these gentle giants and create memories that will last forever.
Horse riding trails
Horse riding trails are offered in the Main Camp of the Addo Park 18km from the Hotel. Enjoy a 1 hour, 3 hour or 5 hour trail; both beginners and experienced riders are both welcome.
Amakhala Game Reserve
Amakhala Game Reserve is located 90 minutes from the Hotel. Day visitors are offered a big-five game experience. The program is an afternoon/evening program including a game drive through the reserve, a river cruise on the bushman’s river with cheese and wine and a 3 course Boma dinner.
No children under 6 years old are allowed on the game drives.
Schotia Safaris
Schotia Safaris is approximately 1 hour from the Hotel and offers a great experience, which includes 2 game drives in open game viewers on the reserve and a tasty Boma dinner. If lion sightings are on the top of your list, then Schotia Safaris is a must.
Zuurberg’s Walking Trails
Zuurberg’s walking trails are available on request and usually last for two hours followed by refreshments. During the walk you are likely to see an assortment of antelope, zebra and wildebeests.

Children Policy
Children under 8 years by prior arrangement.
For their own safety, children under the age of 8 years are not permitted to go on normal big 5 game drives.
Babysitting facilities are available by prior arrangement at a cost of R75 per hour.
Special game drives can be arranged for families with children younger than 8 years. There is a surcharge of R700.00 for a private game drive vehicle.
When sharing with two full paying adults, children under the age of 3 years are accommodated complimentary in either a cot or a stretcher bed.
When sharing with two full paying adults, children over the age of 3 years are charged the applicable child / 3rd person sharing rate.
